29 December 1824
Walton County formed from areas of Escambia & Jackson Counties.
Point Washington area, Niceville, Panama City Beach, Destin, Southport, Vernon & Ponce de Leon areas are part of the new Walton County
09 December 1825
Washington County formed with a portion of Walton. Jackson gained area from Walton.
Valparaiso & Crestview areas added to Walton County
Point Washington, Panama City Beach, Southport, Destin, Santa Rosa Beach leave Walton County
08 January 1848
Holmes County formed with a portion of Walton.
Ponce de Leon leaves Walton County
Only connection to the Gulf is through the Pass near Camp Walton
11 January 1851
Walton and Santa Rosa Counties exchange areas
Fort Walton Beach, and portion of barrier island added back into Walton County
14 January 1853
Santa Rosa County gained area from Walton.
17 May 1913
Walton County gained area from Washington. South Walton returns to Walton County.
Destin and South Walton areas now back within Walton County
07 September 1915
Today's current border. Okaloosa County formed from a portion of Walton County and also from Santa Rosa County.
